Why Recreational Weed Massachusetts Needs a Weed Mass Safety Plan
Massachusetts has had more recreational weed-related deaths than any other state.
But while recreational marijuana has become the darling of the political right, recreational weed has been associated with a far more deadly toll than any drug.
A report from the Drug Policy Alliance found that in 2015, at least 2,094 people in Massachusetts died from marijuana-related overdoses.
The group’s researchers found that more than 80% of those deaths occurred in communities where marijuana was legal.
It’s estimated that recreational weed deaths have been responsible for nearly a third of the opioid deaths in the state.
